  2. Union Minister to personally hold talks with the protesters.
  3. Protesters demand economic criteria, 'quota within quota', EWS benefits.

The 'Reservation Hatao Andolan' (RHA) protesters on Saturday claimed that the central government has agreed to discuss their demands for reforms to the caste-based reservation system. According to the group, a Union Minister will "personally" hold talks with the protesters.

This development comes a day after a large crowd gathered at Delhi's Jantar Mantar for a demonstration against the existing reservation system, during which police detained several participants.

What Reservation Hatao Andolan Protesters Said

RHA, an Instagram-based campaign with around 5.6 million followers, said on X, "The government has agreed to discuss the demands of the activists of the reservation reform movement. Harsh Bhai has informed that a central minister will personally hold talks with the protesters."

The group also suggested including right-wing influencer Ajeet Bharti and author Anand Ranganathan, among others, in the proposed discussions.

"It is hoped that @ajeetbharti, @neha_laldas, @ARanganathan72, and others will also be included in this discussion. They can present these issues with much greater clarity and strength through their arguments and data," it added.

The RHA, however, stated that its movement has not ended.

What Are The Protesters Demanding?

The RHA protesters have raised five key demands:

- They demand that economic circumstances be given greater weight when deciding eligibility for government assistance, including educational scholarships, coaching support, and admission aid.

- The group has called for 'quota within quota' to ensure that reservation benefits reach the most disadvantaged sections within reserved communities.

- They are seeking a white paper evaluating the overall impact of the reservation system over the past eight decades.

- The protesters are demanding fixing minimum marks for admissions to premier higher education institutions, such as the IITs and IIMs, arguing that academic standards should not be compromised.

- They are pushing for greater benefits for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), including fee and hostel-related aid.

Beyond these five demands, protesters at the demonstration also raised concerns over the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and higher education policies, including the University Grants Commission framework.
