Telangana: Dharmapuri Arvind, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Nizamabad, has claimed that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy could ditch Congress to join BJP in the coming years. The BJP MP stated that the Congress did a mistake by prioritising Reddy over the senior leaders. He further claimed that he will do exactly what West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari did to the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC), switching sides at a crucial time.

While addressing the party supporters, the BJP MP further stated that the Congress will face a big defeat in the 2028 assembly polls. "Congress will face an unprecedented defeat in 2028-29 here in Telangana. They lost badly in 1985 and in 1994. In 2028-29, under the leadership of Revanth Reddy, the Congress party is going to face a disastrous defeat," Arvind said.

Earlier last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a rare gesture, invited Reddy to join the BJP on a lighter note. The prime minister stated that Reddy should join the saffron party to fulfill his political ambitions. However, Reddy did not respond to his statement and further sought funds to carry out the development works in the state.

On being asked about PM Modi's statement, Dharmapuri Arvind stated that he was not sure if there was any political link; however, the political dynamics in Telangana will change. "I don't know what that means exactly, as I am just a ground-level worker in the BJP. I'm not sure if there is a political link there. I really don't know if something is brewing, something similar to what Suvendu Adhikari did," he said.

While Reddy has not responded to these remarks yet, the fresh controversy is likely to catch eyeballs ahead of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. Earlier in 2023, Congress registered a landslide victory in Telangana under the leadership of Revanth Reddy.
