The "financial irregularities" at RG Kar are said to have taken place during the tenure of Sandip Ghosh, who stepped down as the principal of the state-run institution in August after the alleged rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor inside the premises of the hospital-medical college.
Pandey, who is said to have close ties with Ghosh, was under the central agency's scanner and was interrogated by its investigators on September 30, the official told PTI. Ghosh, who is currently under judicial custody, was arrested in the graft case on September 2. He was later arrested by a separate CBI team, which is investigating the rape-murder case.
Though he was initially under the CBI's radar only for any possible involvement in the alleged rape and murder, the noose around Ghosh tightened when the probe agency took over the corruption case that stems from complaints lodged by Akhtar Ali, the doctor who served as the deputy superintendent of RGKMCH at the time of the alleged rape and murder.

On August 23, the Calcutta High Court transferred the anti-corruption probe to CBI. He was arrested after a marathon round of questioning spanning two weeks. In its FIR, besides Ghosh, the CBI named three Kolkata-based private entities: Ma Tara Traders of Madhya Jhorehat, Banipur, Howrah; Eshan Cafe of 4/1, Belgachia, and Khama Louha, as per PTI.
