Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar medical college, where a trainee doctor was found brutally raped and murdered on August 9, was remanded to 8-days police custody to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) by a city court in the financial irregularities case on Tuesday. Along with Sandip, three others, including two contractors and an aide, were also sent to the CBI custody.

Earlier today, the central probe agency requested the Alipore Judges Court to grant 10-day custody of the accused, claiming that there was a 'large nexus' that needed to be exposed.

"There is a large nexus that needs to be exposed and hence we are asking for interrogation. We have just arrested 4 people. There is a large nexus. We need their custody to unearth the entire nexus, the CBI told the court.

Granting an eight-day custody of the four accused to the CBI, the court set the next hearing on 10th September.

The Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) Anti-Corruption Branch arrested Sandip Ghosh, along with three others, on Monday for alleged corruption and financial misconduct at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

In addition to Dr Ghosh, the CBI arrested two vendors, Biplav Singha and Suman Hazar, as well as Afsar Ali, Dr Ghosh's additional security personnel.

Ghosh had been under investigation for alleged corruption and financial irregularities at the college and hospital, following an order from a single bench of the Calcutta High Court, which directed the CBI to conduct a probe into the matter.
