RG Kar College Rape-Murder: The CBI summoned four postgraduate trainees (PGT) doctors of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to interrogate them in connection to the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old fellow PGT doctor. The central agency is likely to interrogate the doctors regarding the events of the night of the incident, ANI reported, citing CBI sources.
All four doctors were asked to report to the CBI Special Crime Branch in the CGO complex in Kolkata's, Salt Lake area. This comes as the central agency is racing against time to complete a complex investigation amid huge public and political outrage on the incident.
RG Kar Case: What Happened On August 9
A second-year PGT doctor was found dead in a seminar hall on the college campus. A post-mortem later confirmed brutality was unleashed on her during gruesome rape and murder. The incident, which rocked the state, soon witnessed a nationwide uproar on the issue, with the West Bengal government's law and order coming at the eye of the storm.
While the police arrested a Kolkata Police civic volunteer in the case on the next day of the incident, several reports indicated the involvement of more than one person in committing the crime. After the matter reached the Kolkata High Court, it transferred the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The autopsy report revealed that she was sexually assaulted before being killed via strangulation. It further indicated several gory details of the nature of the crime such as bleeding from the victim's eyes, nose and private parts.
RG Kar Case: What Victim's Father Said
In the first public reaction after the brutal incident, the father of the victim shared about his daughter's commitment to her studies and her aspirations. He said that she would immerse herself in the books for hours and worked very hard to secure a seat in the medical institution.
"I won't get my daughter back. But all I could do was have courage and be hopeful. The show of support from around the country is giving us a lot of courage to fight for justice," he said.
According to an India Today report, the doctor expressed her ambition to excel in her studies and pass her PG with a gold medal in her personal diary.
