Sandip Ghosh Arrested: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the former principal of Kolkata's government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, on Monday in connection with alleged financial misconduct at the establishment, officials cited by news agency PTI said.

Ghosh was the principal of RGKMCH at the time of the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor, which took place at the institute last month. Though he was initially under the CBI's radar only for his alleged involvement in the crime, the noose around Ghosh tightened when the CBI initiated a anti-corruption probe against him in compliance with an on order from the Calcutta High Court.

The anti-corruption probe stems from complaints lodged by Akhtar Ali, the doctor who served as the deputy superintendent of RG Kar at the time of the alleged rape and murder. In his complaints, Ali alleged several counts of financial irregularities at the medical college during Ghosh's tenure as the principal there.

Last week, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) suspended Ghosh's membership. He had stepped down from the post of RGKMCH's principal after the victim's body was found inside the hospital's seminar room.
