RG Kar Rape-Murder Case: The judgment in the rape and murder of an on-duty post-graduate trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, which took place in August last year, is scheduled to be delivered on January 18. The verdict will be given by the designated judge at the Sealdah court.
The in-camera day-to-day trial for the August 9 rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, which commenced on November 12, concluded on Thursday.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), after being tasked with the investigation by the Calcutta High Court, has requested the imposition of the death penalty on Sanjay Roy, who faces charges related to a horrific crime.
The parents of the victim emphasized that other individuals were involved in the crime. They expressed their expectation that these individuals would also be arrested and face trial in court.
The post-graduate trainee medical student was found dead in the seminar room of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. Sanjay Roy was arrested by the Kolkata Police the next day after the horrific incident.
Amartya Dey, the lawyer representing the victim's family, stated, "We have called for the death penalty for Roy, but he is not the only one responsible. The investigation should continue."

The CBI has not yet brought charges against Dr Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, or Abhijit Mondal, the former officer-in-charge of the Tala police station, despite both being arrested by the CBI and accused of evidence tampering. Additionally, Ghosh is involved in a separate case concerning financial irregularities at the hospital.
The death of the trainee doctor sparked widespread outrage across the country, resulting in extended protests by junior doctors in Kolkata. They demanded justice for the victims and called for enhanced security protocols in government hospitals.
