Saheli Smart Card Launch: In a major update, the Delhi government is gearing up to roll out long-awaited pink cards or “Saheli Smart Card” around Bhai Dooj (October 23). The Saheli Smart Card will allow women to travel for free in DTC and Cluster buses.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has instructed the transport department to expedite the process and complete all necessary preparations ahead of the festival, which is celebrated by women two days after Diwali.

“Our backend integration for pink and other smart cards is done. The plan is to launch the card around Bhai Dooj. Depending on the CM’s directions, the rollout will happen in phases,” Hindustan Times quoted a senior official as saying.

DTC Nears Rollout Of Saheli Smart Card

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is in the final stages of empanelling banks to issue the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) and the “Saheli” smart card. The cards will enable commuters, especially women, to travel seamlessly across DTC buses, the Delhi Metro, and other public transportation services.

According to officials, most buses have been equipped with card-reading machines, and the distribution of Saheli smart cards is likely to begin in phases shortly.

Key Highlights Of Saheli Smart Cards

- Women and transgender residents of Delhi with the Saheli Smart Card will be eligible for free travel on DTC and cluster buses, while also being able to recharge and use the same card for paid rides on the Delhi Metro and other public transport services.

- The Saheli Smart Card will replace the traditional pink ticket system and will also eliminate the need for separate cards for multi-modal travel.

- The key highlight of the Saheli Smart Card is that the card will be equipped with the holder’s name and photograph, preventing the risk of misuse.

- The Saheli Smart Cards will be available in two variants, including Zero-KYC and Full-KYC.

- A Zero-KYC card can be instantly used by banks or authorised DTC centres, using a mobile number and Aadhaar OTP for verification. The card will function as a prepaid travel card for use on public transport.

- A Full-KYC card will be issued through a partner bank, featuring the holder’s photograph and personal details. The card can be used for public transport and regular purchases, acting as a debit card.
