After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to curb fuel consumption, the Supreme Court announced on Friday that hearings will be conducted via video conferencing for all matters scheduled on miscellaneous and partial working days.
This follows the Prime Minister's appeal for austerity as the West Asia conflict continues to destabilise energy markets by disrupting oil and gas flows.
Supreme Court Introduces Fuel-Saving Measures
Virtual Hearings: According to a circular issued by the Supreme Court Secretary General, all matters listed on Mondays, Fridays, and other designated miscellaneous days will now be heard virtually until further notice. This also applies to all cases listed during the court's partial working days.
The Registry has been instructed to provide video conferencing links on time and ensure that technical support is readily available to prevent any disruptions during virtual hearings.
Judges To Car-Pool: The apex court further stated that its judges have 'unanimously resolved' to adopt carpooling, aiming to reduce fuel consumption and enhance efficiency of their daily travel.
2-Day WFH: To further support these measures, the court has allowed 50 per cent of the employees in every Registry branch to work remotely for a maximum of two days per week. The arrangement will be implemented through weekly rosters to ensure that court operations continue without disruption.
Additionally, the court has clarified that Registry authorities have the authority to modify or restrict the work-from-home policy where physical attendance is necessary due to the nature of the work.
This follows PM Modi’s advice to adopt work-from-home practices in suitable sectors to minimise commute-related fuel consumption.
Petrol, Diesel And CNG Prices Hiked
Earlier today, the government announced a hike in the prices of petrol, diesel, and CNG. While the price of petrol was hiked by Rs 3.14 per litre, the price of diesel surged by Rs 3.11 per litre. Additionally, the price of CNG saw an increase of Rs 2 per kg.
