Mohamman Shami-Hasin Jahan: The Supreme Court of India sent a notice to cricketer Mohammad Shami and the West Bengal government, as his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, moves to the top court for with a petition for a higher alimony amount.

The ex-wife of the bowler approached the apex court against the Calcutta High Court order that granted her Rs 1.5 lakh per month in maintenance and Rs 2.5 lakh for their daughter’s care. Jahan argued that the current amount is not adequate for their needs.

'Quite Handsome': Top Court On Hasin Jahan's Alimony Amount

As per a report by the news agency ANI, the court dubbed the amount given to Hasin Jahan as ‘quite handsome’.

Acting on the petition, the SC bench sought a response from both parties (Shami and West Bengal as it sent the notice to both.

Jahan’s lawyers argued that Shami’s income and assets were far greater than disclosed in the current maintenance order. "The husband earns a lot of money. Look at the affidavits - he has property worth hundreds of crores, luxury cars, travels abroad frequently, and leads an extravagant lifestyle," Jahan’s lawyer before court.

Mohammad Shami- Hasin Jahan Legal Battle

This latest development adds another chapter in the couple's long-standing legal feud, which started in 2018 when Jahan accused Shami of domestic violence and harassment. The accusations triggered a criminal case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. While the BCCI subsequently gave a clean chit to Shami in match-fixing claims, his personal conflict with Jahan continues unabated.
