A mass wedding ceremony with over 300 couples getting married at a college in Uttar Pradesh’s Hanspur district, turned dramatic when a few uninvited guests reportedly tried to stop the wedding of one of the brides, named Asma.
The incident took place on February 23, when Asma decided to get married under the Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme but was stopped by her in-laws. According to the UP Police, Asma was already married and was trying to get married for the second time to take benefits of the government scheme.
Three years ago, Asma married her husband, Noor Mohammad, but was living with her parents for the past six months following disputes between the two, NDTV reported. Their divorce is reportedly pending in the court.

Upon knowing about the Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage scheme, Asma decided to get married with her cousin, Jaber Ahmed. The two decided to split the beneficiaries that included financial assistance of Rs 35,000 along with several gifts.
The two had reportedly planned to buy buffaloes from the money and split the gifts that included a dinner set, two pairs of clothes for the bride and the groom, a wall clock, a vanity kit, a dupatta, silver toe rings and anklets, and a lunch box.
In order to stop the wedding, Asma’s father-in-law reached the venue with the marriage certificate of Asma and her husband, Noor Mohammad. He later filed a FIR against the two based on which police lodged a complaint against them for violating the rules of the government’s scheme.
