In a recent update, Kannada actress Ranya Rao’s husband, Jatin Hukkeri, has approached the court seeking protection from arrest in connection with a gold smuggling case. He claimed that he and Rao had separated just a month after their wedding in November, as reported by India Today.

Hukkeri, who was arrested earlier in relation to the case, has filed a petition in court requesting an exemption from arrest. On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court ruled that no action should be taken against him until the next hearing.

Hukkeri’s Advocate Argues for Exemption

Hukkeri’s lawyer, Prabhuling Navadagi, stated in court that his client married Rao in November but had been living separately since December due to personal differences. Although their separation was not officially documented, they had not been together since then, he argued.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) is set to file its objection to Hukkeri’s plea on Monday. The High Court has extended its earlier order, ensuring no action is taken against him until March 24, when the next hearing is scheduled.

Hukkeri’s name came into the spotlight after IPS officer Ramachandra Rao, Ranya Rao’s father, claimed that his daughter had cut ties with her family after her marriage. Ramachandra Rao, who serves as the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation, made these remarks following his daughter’s arrest.

Ranya Rao remains in custody after being caught smuggling gold from Dubai on March 3. She recently submitted a fresh bail plea to the Sessions Court after a lower court rejected her initial request. The Sessions Court is expected to review her petition today.
