Delhi Police Special Cell on Monday arrested the  NIA's most wanted terrorist Shahnawaz alias Shafi Uzzama. He was wanted in the Pune ISIS case and had escaped from Pune police custody and was living in Delhi. The Delhi Police Special Cell has also detained three more people along with him. All the three accused were sent to seven days of police remand.

"Shahnawaz, an engineer by profession, is a resident of Delhi, had escaped from Pune police custody and was living in Delhi. Delhi Police Special Cell has also detained some other people. Further investigation underway," said Delhi Police.

"The module was planning to carry out terror incidents in North India, taking instructions from foreign-based handlers. Incriminating materials were recovered including materials suspected to be used for IED fabrication," they added.

According to the sources cited by ANI, the police have also detained some other people.

"Few other members of the module were detained. Module was planning to carry out terror incidents in North India, taking instructions from foreign based handlers," ANI quoted an official as saying.

"Incriminating material recovered including materials suspected to be used for IED fabrication," the official stated.

Earlier on September 30, the NIA had initiated a rigorous search operation to locate three individuals with suspected links to the Islamic State in Central Delhi.

According to ANI sources, the NIA's mission focused on locating Uzzama, Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali, and Abdullah Fayaz Shaikh, all of whom are sought in connection with the Pune IS module case.
