A day after Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said, "What is wrong with meeting my nephew?" amid speculation of him meeting with Ajit Pawar, the Shiv Sena (UBT) claimed on Monday that frequent meetings between both are tarnishing the image of Sharad Pawar. According to news agency PTI, an editorial in the Shiv Sena (UBT) mouthpiece 'Saamana' said "It is "amusing" to see Ajit Pawar is frequently meeting (his uncle) Sharad Pawar, and the latter is also not avoiding it".
"There is a hunch that BJP's 'Chanakya' is trying to create some confusion by sending Ajit to meet senior Pawar. However, such meetings tarnish the image of Sharad Pawar and it is not good," it said.
Sharad Pawar, whose NCP is an ally of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress in Maharashtra, said his party will not go with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), though some "well-wishers" are trying to persuade him. He also said there was nothing wrong if his nephew, Ajit Pawar, met him.
The editorial in 'Saamana' said, "This daily game of creation of confusion has now gone beyond the minds of people. The people have become numb to it because of the current political games," reported PTI.
Rajya Sabha MP and Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut also responded to Sharad Pawar's remark that there is nothing wrong with him meeting his nephew.
"Sharad Pawar is saying Ajit Pawar is his nephew and can meet him. Why are their followers fighting on the streets then?" Raut asked. In what appeared to be a swipe at the veteran leader, he said, "We don't put up appearances by sitting with another party's leaders as our workers fight," Sanjay Raut said, as quoted by NDTV.
The Thackeray faction later described Sharad Pawar as the "Bhishma Pitamaha" of Maharashtra politics and said he "should not do anything that creates doubt in the minds of people".
On Sunday, Sharad Pawar said that Ajit is his nephew, and he met him as the father-figure of the family. and wondered why it should become the topic of such baseless discussions in the media.
