Sharda Sinha Death News: Popular folk singer Sharda Sinha, a Padma Bhushan recipient, passed away at the age of 72 on Tuesday. She breathed her last at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, where she was undergoing treatment.

Known as Bihar Kokila, Sinha had been battling multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, since 2018. She was recently put on ventilator support at AIIMS Delhi following a complication arising from her illness.

According to a statement published by AIIMS Delhi hours before Sinha's death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was continuously monitoring her condition and was in direct contact with the treating doctors.

WHO WAS SHARDA SINHA?

Sharda Sinha was born on October 1, 1952, in Bihar's Samastipur, in a family associated with music. She started her career with All India Radio and Doordarshan in 1980 and soon became famous for her powerful voice and emotional performance. Sinha was wildly popular among the populace of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Her death came on the first day of this year's Chhath Puja festivities. She was, in fact, primarily known for her songs dedicated to the Hindu festival. Sinha, who hailed from Bihar, had sung several popular folk songs such as "Chhathi Maiya Aayi Na Duaariya", "Kartik Maas Ijoriya", and "Dwar Chekai".

SHARDA SINHA NOTABLE WORK

She was also known for her Bollywood tracks "Taar Bijli" from 'Gangs of Wasseypur- II' and "Babul" from the film 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun'. Sinha contributed immensely to Bhojpuri, Maithili, and Hindi folk music. Her work was recognized with the Padma Bhushan in 2018. She was also honoured with a National Film Award for her contributions to regional cinema.

SHARDA SINHA CONDOLENCE MESSAGES

As the news about Sharda Sinha's demise surfaced, condolence messages started pouring in on social media. Taking to X, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, "I am deeply saddened by the demise of Shrimati Sharda Sinha ji. She was a multi-talented folk singer who made Bhojpuri language popular among the masses. People will remember her songs for a long time. With her demise, the world of folk music has lost an influential voice. In this hour of grief, I express my condolences to her bereaved family and fans. Om Shanti!"

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath said in a post: "Humble tribute to her (Sharda Sinha)! Through her excellent traditional singing, she served many folk languages including Maithili, Bhojpuri and folk culture and brought her respect on the national stage. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed soul in his feet and provide strength to her bereaved family and fans to bear this immense loss. Om Shanti!"
