Shimla Green Tax: Tourist vehicles entering Shimla from outside Himachal Pradesh may now have to pay a green tax. The Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC), which met on Thursday for a monthly meeting, discussed the proposal to charge a green tax on vehicles entering the city from other states. The green tax is intended to boost income and will be levied on non-Himachal Pradesh-registered vehicles.
The Shimla Municipal Corporation plans to submit the proposal to the state government for approval, and will impose the Green Tax. The Shimla Municipal Corporation has estimated an earning of over Rs 12 crore from the green tax to be charged from the outside vehicles. Earlier, the corporation had imposed it on the National Highway, however, it had to be removed after a High Court direction.

The SMC plans to implement the green tax in a barrier-free manner. Making an effort towards finding new sources of income, the SSMC has proposed to impose green tax on vehicles coming from outside the city. The corporation has been making efforts in the direction of diversifying its revenue streams and increasing its income.
Shimla Green Tax: How Much Outside Vehicles Will Be Charged?
Tourists entering Shimla in non-Himachal Pradesh-registered vehicles might have to pay Rs 50 for two wheelers. Big vehicles like buses and trucks will have to pay Rs 300, while Rs 200 will be charged from the cars as soon as the corporation receives government approval. The Green tax is aimed at reducing pollution and promoting eco-friendly practices.
