Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah went through an embarrassing situation online after he shared a celebratory post about the state's achievement of two world records, which turned out to be fake.
In a post, Siddaramaiah shared two certificates claiming it to be issued by the London Book of World Records (LBWR). The certificates were, however, fake and were linked to a company that was dissolved earlier this year.
On Wednesday, he wrote on X that the Shakti Scheme had been recognised by LBWR for enabling the highest number of free bus rides, 564.10 crore, for women.
He further added that the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) had received 464 national and international honours since 1997.
His post prompted fact checks with BJP leader Amit Malviya mocking the CM and Congress government for falling for fake certificates.
Malviya pointed out that the certificates have spelling and grammatical errors. "A BIG embarrassment for Congress. Yesterday, no less than Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah proudly claimed that two state schemes were recognised by the London Book of Records. Turns out — it’s FAKE. Someone literally conned the Congress,” Malviya posted on X, highlighting spelling and grammatical errors in the certificates," he added.

Soon the issue turned into a political spectacle and JDS also joined the criticism. The JDS pointed out that the issuing firm dissolved in 2025. The party said, "The UK firm London Book of World Records Ltd (No.15807885) that issued these certificates was dissolved on July 15, 2025, no office, no operations. They literally sell Gold, Silver & Platinum “record packages. We thought only their surname was borrowed. Now even their certificates are bought."

Siddaramaiah was brutally trolled for falling for the fake document with a user saying, "Don’t delete this post @siddaramaiah saar - someone has fooled you into posting a rubbish certificate from a Delhi agency. They can’t even get their spelling right on the certificate ‘record’ in one place & ‘records’ in another."
