A 21-year-old engineering student has been taken into custody and sent to judicial remand for allegedly raping a senior student at a private college in Bengaluru. Police reported on Friday that the incident occurred at BMS College of Engineering, located in South Bengaluru's Basavanagudi area, where a seventh-semester student was allegedly assaulted by her junior inside a men’s restroom on campus.

Authorities from the Hanumanthanagar police station arrested the accused, Jeevan Gowda, a fifth-semester student, on Wednesday in connection with the reported assault. He is currently in judicial custody.

As reported by HT, the survivor stated that the accused, Jeevan Gowda, attempted to kiss her by force during the lunch break. When she resisted, he allegedly dragged her into the men’s washroom and raped her.

Though the incident is said to have occurred on October 10, the First Information Report (FIR) was not filed until October 15, under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
