Karnataka News: Amid ongoing speculation of a cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's son on Wednesday suggested that Congress leader Satish Jarkiholi could be his father's political successor. Yatindra, Siddaramaiah's son emphasised that his father is in the last phase of his career, adding that a leader with a similar strong ideology should carry forward his legacy. The remarks came days after four senior Congress leaders openly called for the appointment of DK Shivakumar as the chief minister. Earlier last month, CM Siddaramaiah asserted that he will complete his tenure as the chief minister.
While addressing a crowd, Yatindra stated that it was difficult to find a person with similar ideology, adding that Jarkiholi has the abilities to carry his father's legacy. The chief minister's son also asserted that Siddaramaiah is in his last phase of his political career, leading to speculations over a possible change in leadership. However, Jarkiholi had previously clarified that he was not in the race for the chief ministerial candidate, adding that Siddaramaiah should continue to hold the top post.
Earlier last month, Siddaramaiah debunked the reports of him leaving the chief minister's post by stating that he will continue to run the state for the next 2.5 years. “I will continue as CM for the remaining 2.5 years. They said I won’t become CM for a second time, but I did and will continue for another 2.5 years," Siddaramaiah asserted.
Apart from this, the Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar also stated that the final decision on the issue will be taken by the Congress high command. "Only I and God know when I will become chief minister," Shivakumar asserted. However, several senior party leaders, including Shivarame Gowda, stated that Shivakumar is set to become the chief minister by the end of this year.
