Fan frenzy can prove fatal not just on the silver screen but in real life as well. A shocking case illustrating this has emerged in Jabalpur, where a fan of Bollywood singer Kumar Sanu attempted suicide under the delusion that Sanu's fans would kill him for listening to another singer's song.

35-year-old Pramod Manjhi, a resident of Dumri village in Chhapra district, Bihar, attempted suicide by first trying to jump off a train, then slashing his throat at the station, and finally jumping from the first floor of the hospital.

Discussion With Psychiatrist Over Phone

After the matter gained attention, playback singer Kumar Sanu personally discussed his fan's condition with Bhopal's renowned psychiatrist, Dr Satyakant Trivedi, on Wednesday. Dr Trivedi told Naidunia, that he received a call from Kumar Sanu. The singer also spoke to the youth's family members. Sanu called Pramod's father, Fagu Manjhi, assuring him of financial assistance and wishing for Pramod's speedy recovery.

What Is 'Psychotic Delusion'?

According to doctors at Jabalpur Medical College, Pramod is battling a mental condition called 'Psychotic Delusion.' In this condition, a person loses the ability to distinguish between reality and imagination. Pramod believed that by listening to other singers' songs on Reels, he had betrayed Kumar Sanu, and now Sanu's millions of fans would hunt him down and punish him.

According to Psychiatrist Dr Satyakant Trivedi, people with fragile mental states often fall prey to such delusions due to social media trolling and group pressure. An increase in dopamine levels makes the person believe their delusion is 100 percent true. Currently, the youth is undergoing treatment, although his family has taken him back to Bihar after primary care.
