Geeta Kora, the current MP from Singhbhum, will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. She will be the first woman candidate from BJP to contest from this seat. She had won the seat in 2019 on Congress ticket, defeating BJP’s Laxman Giluva by a huge margin.

BJP announced her name on Saturday, after reaching a final consensus among the Central and State Committees. The other name that was considered was JB Tubid, who had contested from Chaibasa assembly seat twice.

Geeta Kora, born on 26 September 1983, is a mother of two daughters and a son. She started her political career by winning the Jagannathpur assembly seat in 2009. She won the seat again in 2020, after facing defeat by BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

She switched from Congress to BJP recently, citing dissatisfaction with the Grand Alliance government led by former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. She claimed that the government failed to deliver on its promises, especially in Singhbhum, where she stated that no development work has been done in the last five years. She also accused the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) that the party only takes votes in the name of tribals and emotionally blackmails them.

She expressed her gratitude to BJP for declaring her as its candidate and said that she will make every effort to live up to the confidence of the public. Meanwhile, her announcement was also welcomed by the BJP workers of West Singhbhum, who welcomed the decision taken by the party's top leadership.
