Som Group IT Raid: The Income Tax (IT) Department on Tuesday raided 50 premises linked to Som Group of Companies across five states, News18 reported. The locations where the raids were being conducted included Bhopal, Jabalpur and Indore in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh. Som Group of Companies is mainly involved in the business of spirits, beer and alcopop.

The raids came just ten days ahead of the Assembly election in Madhya Pradesh, which is slated to go to the polls in a single phase on November 17. Locations outside MP where the entity's premises were searched included Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Cuttack, and Bengaluru, according to the report by News18. As per reports, all the raids began simultaneously at 6 am.

Raids were reportedly also underway in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, where voting for the first phase of the Assembly election took place on Tuesday. The IT department is said to have been assisted by teams of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in the operation.
