Jagran Correspondent, New Delhi: A large crowd is expected to gather at Jantar Mantar on Sunday for the protest organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). While Opposition parties have extended support in a measured way, left-wing student organisations have shown considerable activity in the protest. Hundreds of students affiliated with JNU's left-wing student organisations have camped at Jantar Mantar, carrying drums.
Meanwhile, CJP chief Abhijeet Dipke has taken the lead after social activist Sonam Wangchuk was hospitalised for treatment. Dipke has begun an indefinite hunger strike. Saturday marked the first day of his fast. Wangchuk, who had been on a hunger strike for 21 days, was hospitalised by police on Saturday for treatment, where his condition is reported to be stable. Since Wangchuk's removal, the movement at Jantar Mantar has intensified.
Police Action Expected On Sunday Night, Says Dipke
Crowds of left-wing students began arriving at Jantar Mantar on Saturday afternoon. Late in the night, Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad also arrived at Jantar Mantar. Abhijeet Dipke also released a video message on X, urging people to reach Jantar Mantar in large numbers on Sunday andstay overnight. He expressed apprehension that the police might try to remove them on Sunday night.
Delhi Police On Alert, Says No 'Unauthorised' March Will Be Allowed
The Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to begin on Monday. As a result, the security has been tightened across the national capital. Delhi Police on Saturday said that it would not permit the “Sansad Chalo” protest march to Parliament scheduled for Monday.
"Every vehicle entering the New Delhi district will be subjected to thorough checking. Additional barricades have been installed at strategic locations, surveillance has been intensified and police personnel have been directed to maintain strict vigil in New Delhi, Central Delhi and North Delhi round the clock," a senior official told PTI.
The official further said that security forces would not allow any unauthorised march towards Parliament. As per the official CJP has not sought permission for the march adding that a approval was anyway unlikely.
Sonam Wangchuk Health Update
The condition of climate activist and educationist Sonam Wangchuk, admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in the national capital, is currently stable.
In a health bulletin issued Sunday morning, the hospital stated that he was receiving the necessary medical treatment. His pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen levels were normal, but some blood parameters were still not completely normal.
According to the hospital, Sonam Wangchuk has been kept under the observation of a team of various specialists due to the impact on the body due to prolonged fasting.
A joint team of doctors from VMMC, Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS said that round-the-clock medical monitoring and treatment is necessary so that any health complication can be treated immediately.
The health bulletin stated that Sonam Wangchuk is being provided with all necessary medical care. His health, including blood parameters, is being continuously monitored. Doctors believe that continued treatment and monitoring are essential in the current situation.
Sonam Wangchuk’s Wife Moves Delhi HC
Sonam Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali J Angmo has claimed that Sardarjung hospital has refused to discharge the climate activist or allow his family to shift him to a private hospital.
“I have lost faith in Safdarjung Government Hospital. The hospital told us @Wangchuk66’s potassium had dropped to 2.9, describing it as alarming and life-threatening. Yet, in its public health bulletin, it conveniently omitted the actual number, referring only to "decreasing potassium levels." When after 10 hours and repeated requests, they allowed us to take samples of his blood at 10.30 pm, an independent laboratory test reported 3.5, well within the normal range,” Gitanjali J Angmo posted on X.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has agreed to urgently hear plea by Wangchuk''s wife to shift activist from Safdarjung Hospital to private facility, PTI reported.
“With around 30 police personnel stationed on our floor and well over 100 across the hospital, our movement is severely restricted. It is not medical care. It is illegal detention. If anything happens to Sonam, the hospital authorities and the government must bear full responsibility. I have therefore moved the High Court and sought an urgent hearing today, praying for permission to shift Sonam before his health deteriorates further. No family should have to fight the system simply to choose where their loved one receives medical care,” Wangchuk's wife had earlier posted on X.
