Sonipat-Delhi Metro: The ambitious project to connect Sonipat in Haryana to the Delhi Metro is rapidly moving towards completion. Part of the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro, this new corridor is expected to be operational by 2028, enhancing travel for thousands of commuters between Sonipat and Delhi.

New Metro Stations at Kundli and Nathupur

As part of the plan, two new metro stations will be constructed at Kundli and Nathupur in Sonipat. These stations will provide significant convenience to the many passengers who travel daily from Sonipat to Delhi. Currently, officials are working to address land acquisition challenges and other technical issues that may impact the project timeline. This metro link is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion and contribute to the overall development of Sonipat.

DS Dhesi, Principal Advisor of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), recently convened a meeting to assess the project's progress. Attendees included representatives from the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and local district administration. Key topics discussed included land acquisition, road construction and the relocation of electricity poles. Dhesi urged officials to resolve these issues immediately to keep the project on track.

List Of 21 Stations

The metro corridor will span a total of 26.5 km and feature around 21 stations. Starting from Rithala, the line will extend to Nathupur, passing through various areas including Rohini, Bawana and Narela. The complete list of stations includes Rithala, Rohini Sector 25, Rohini Sector 26, Rohini Sector 31 and numerous others, culminating at Nathupur.

Project Cost and Funding Breakdown

The estimated cost of this extensive project is Rs 6,230 crore. Of this, Rs 5,685.22 crore will be allocated for the Delhi section, while Rs 545.77 crore is earmarked for the Haryana segment. The state government will cover 80 per cent of the costs, with the remaining 20 per cent funded by the central government.

Metro to Benefit 50,000 Daily Commuters

This new metro corridor is set to revolutionise travel for approximately 50,000 daily commuters between Sonipat and Delhi. Once complete, it will enable easier access to areas like Bawana, Narela, Nangloi and Najafgarh. Beyond improving travel convenience, the project aims to foster economic and social growth in Sonipat, creating new job opportunities for residents.

Furthermore, the project is designed to be environmentally sustainable. The metro system is a clean and efficient mode of transport, which not only benefits passengers but also helps reduce road congestion and pollution levels.

To ensure seamless connectivity for the Nathupur metro station, a dedicated committee has been established. This team, comprising HMRTC officials, Municipal Corporation representatives, and District Administration members, has been tasked with visiting the site before February 23 to facilitate smooth access for passengers.

If all goes according to plan, Sonipat residents will enjoy the benefits of metro connectivity by 2028, improving their quality of life and bridging the gap between Haryana and Delhi. This initiative could position Sonipat as a significant commercial and residential centre in the region.
