Sonmarg Snowfall: Sonmarg in Jammu and Kashmir was blanketed in fresh snow on Sunday morning, turning the hill station into a picturesque winter paradise. The snow covered everything roads, rooftops, and the surrounding scenery attracting both locals and tourists keen to take in the breathtaking views.

Tourism-related businesses in the area have welcomed the snowfall, hoping it will lead to an increase in visitors during the busy winter season.

On the same day, dense fog descended on Srinagar city and Dal Lake, lowering visibility and adding to the chill as the ongoing cold wave continues to affect the Kashmir Valley. Temperatures remained well below average, with the minimum expected to be in the single digits, further intensifying the winter conditions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions, forecasting moderate to heavy snowfall in the higher regions of the state.

This fresh wave of snow marks the start of Kashmir’s 40-day harsh winter period, which runs until January 31. It follows a long dry spell, making it one of the most significant wet spells of the season.

The IMD has also warned of moderate to heavy snowfall in the districts of Kupwara, Bandipora, and Ganderbal on December 21.
