Sonprayag–Kedarnath Ropeway: Adani Enterprises Limited has secured a major contract to build a ropeway project connecting Sonprayag to Kedarnath in Uttarakhand. The company received the Letter of Award (LoA) from National Highway Logistics Management Limited and will execute the project through its Road, Metro, Rail and Water division.

Sonprayag To Kedarnath Travel Time Cut: 9-Hour Trek To 36-Minute Ropeway Ride

According to the company’s stock exchange filing, the project will involve an investment of Rs 4,081 crore. Once completed, the ropeway will significantly reduce the travel time for pilgrims. The current 12.9-kilometre trek to Kedarnath takes nearly nine hours, but the ropeway will shorten it to just 36 minutes. It will have the capacity to carry 1,800 passengers per hour in each direction, catering to lakhs of devotees every year. Kedarnath alone receives nearly 20 lakh pilgrims annually.

Sonprayag To Kedarnath Ropeway: To Take Six Years Likely For Construction

The project comes under the National Ropeway Development Programme, also known as the Parvatmala Project and will be developed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Construction is expected to take six years, after which Adani Enterprises will operate the ropeway for 29 years. Officials believe it will not only ease pilgrimage but also boost employment opportunities and tourism in the region.

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, said the ropeway is “more than just an engineering project” and described it as a bridge between faith and modern infrastructure. He added that the project aims to make the sacred journey safer, faster and more accessible for devotees.

Adani Enterprises, the flagship company of the Adani Group, is active across several infrastructure sectors including airports, roads, metro rail, defence and digital services. Its current market capitalisation is valued at over Rs 2.75 lakh crore.
