Srinagar Thar Accident:  Two teenage boys were killed and several others were injured after their car collided with a stationary truck before hitting a divider, prompting calls from various sectors, including political parties, for stern action against underage driving in Kashmir.

The tragedy occurred on Thursday at Tengpora on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway, when the youths driving an SUV collided with a stationary tipper truck before hitting the divider.

The incident's CCTV footage is making the rounds on social media.

Their families were horrified when the 17-year-old boys, Hamaad and Aseem Sofi, died in the accident and two others, one of whom was badly injured, were hurt.

The accident has rekindled efforts from civil society to outlaw teenage driving, and a number of people, including politicians, have voiced their sorrow over the deaths of the two boys.

Omar Abdullah, the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, stated that there is no indication that our road sense is getting better.

“Heart breaking visuals. This accident claimed previous young lives & has had a devastating impact on their families. My heart goes out to the families of the boys killed in this tragic accident. May Allah grant them place in Jannat," Abdullah said in a post on X.

Inam Un Nabi, the chief spokesperson for the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), offered condolences to the families but urged parents not to give teenagers cars.
