Student Dies By Suicide On Osmania University Campus Hours After Similar Incident At KIIT University

Hours after a Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) University student was found dead in his hostel room in Bhubaneswar, another similar incident was reported on Tuesday in Hyderabad University. A student pursuing B Tech died allegedly by suicide on the Osmania University (OU) campus.

Police on Tuesday said the second-year student was found hanging from a tree near a hostel on the varsity campus on Monday night. The varsity management called the police after finding the student dead. Police rushed to the spot and immediately the student to a hospital.

Extreme Step After Being Scolded

Police said the preliminary investigation found that the deceased sent a message to himself on an instant messaging app about an incident in his native village. The student was allegedly severely scolded by his parents after the incident.

The message on the app revealed that the parents told him not to stay in the village and even "end his life" if he does not change his behaviour, the officials said.

The student purportedly wrote in the message that his family members are not bothering about him and that he would like to die.

Police filed a case, and an investigation was underway.

Student Kills Self At KIIT University

Earlier, on Sunday night, a first-year Computer Science student of KIIT University was found dead in his hostel room, prompting an investigation by Infocity Police and the deployment of additional security near the campus.

The deceased has been identified as Rahul Yadav, 18, a resident of Raigad in Chhattisgarh, who was studying computer science engineering in the private institute, police said.

According to a press release by the Police Commissionerate, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, authorities received information at around 10:45 pm on November 30 that the student had been found hanging in his room at KP 7 AB, Campus 10. Police immediately reached the spot and opened the room, which was locked from the inside. A case of unnatural death has been registered.

Rahul was taken to KIMS Hospital, where he was declared dead. Police said that scientific and investigating officers examined the scene, and Rahul's mobile phone and laptop were seized as part of the investigation.
