The scientists have warned that a "Super El Niño" is likely to develop in the Pacific Ocean, leading to significant weather change across the world. As per the latest projections from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, temperature in the ocean is rising rapidly, signalling the formation of El Niño. The scientists, while providing details, asserted that it could alter weather patterns and can also intensify droughts, floods, and heatwaves across numerous countries.

Earlier in March, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) announced that the chances of the formation of El Niño between June and August are 62 per cent. While providing details, the scientists stated that its formation is likely to increase the temperature significantly in several countries. They also asserted that its effects could persist for several years, especially in the Asian nations.

The experts further stated that this phenomenon could drive up global temperatures by several degrees, adding that the Gulf Coast has an increased risk of flooding due to this effect. El Niño develops when the waters in the central and eastern regions of the Pacific Ocean become warmer than usual. The experts stated that while this shift may appear minor, it triggers significant changes in wind patterns, rainfall, and the entire weather system.

As per AccuWeather, El Niño is likely to intensify into a "super El Niño" if it is anticipated earlier. It stated that a super El Niño develops when sea surface temperatures cross 3.6°F above the average, further leading to significant change in weather.

The forecasters believe that there is a 15 per cent chance of the formation of a super El Niño by the end of November, reported AccuWeather. The experts pointed out that during a strong El Niño, rainfall is often weak or uneven, particularly in North and Central India. This effect can impact agriculture, water availability, and the rural economy.
