As the Supreme Court ordered the picking up of all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR within eight weeks, it has issued a stern warning to dog lovers not to meddle in the process.

The apex court has warned both individuals and organisations of strict action if they interfere in the process of stray dogs being taken. The top court said, "If any person or organisation comes in way of picking up of stray dogs, action will be taken."

A bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan emphasised that the young children and infants must not fell prey to stray dogs under any circumstances. The bench noted, "We are issuing these directions keeping larger public interest in mind".

Justice Pardiwala said, "Let's look at reality, we need to pick up round up with whatever means to ensure dog dog-free locality and that's how children and the aged will feel safe".

The apex court on Monday directed the MCD, Delhi government and NDMC to start the process of removing stray dogs and complete it within 8 weeks. The top court added that dog shelters can be made to accomodate them.

The bench said that dog shelters can be created as of now to accommodate around 5,000 stray dogs. The top court also directed sufficient personnel deployment to sterilise and immunise canines. The Supreme Court also ordered t ensure that the dogs remain in shelters and not released in colonies, streets or public places.

It is worth mentioning that the ruling comes almost a month after the top court took suo motu cognisance of several reports highlighting dog biting incidents causing rabies.
