Swati Maliwal Assault Case:  Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday came out in open support of the AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, who's currently clashing head-on with her party after a close associate of CM Arvind Kejriwal allegedly misbehaved with her a week ago. Saxena, who remained in regular spats with the ruling party over several issues in the union territory issued an official statement saying that he is "deeply distressed" with the incident.

Expressing concern over the alleged assault on Maliwal, LG said that he received a phone call from her, in which she detailed the whole ordeal.

He said that he is "deeply distressed over the unfolding media narrative over the last few days on the issue of alleged assault on Swati Maliwal, MP, Aam Admi Party, at the residence of Chief Minister, when she went there to meet him all alone," adding that "Yesterday, she called me out of sheer anguish, describing at length her traumatic experience, and the subsequent intimidation and shaming that she is being subjected to by her own colleagues. She also expressed concerns over reported tampering of evidence and coercion against her."

Lieutenant Governor called the U-turn by the AAP on the matter "inexplicable and baffling", saying that "even though Maliwal has been vociferous, hostile and blatantly partisan towards me and my office, often criticizing me unjustifiably, yet any physical violence and hounding perpetrated on her are inexcusable and unacceptable."

"It is most disturbing to note that the alleged scene of the crime was the drawing room of the Chief Minister, even while he was present in the house, and the same was carried out by his closest aide on a lady who was alone. Her fellow member of Rajya Sabha confirmed her narrative in full media glare and assured that the CM would take firm action against the culprit-his aide. Subsequently, a total U-turn was done in the matter, apparently at the behest of the highest functionary. This too is inexplicable and baffling," he added.

Aam Aadmi Party hits back the LG after he released his letter, saying that LG's letter proved that Swati is now working for Bharatiya Janata Party.

"LG's statement proves that Swati Maliwal is working for the BJP. The BJP is hatching a new conspiracy every day during elections - sometimes liquor scams, sometimes Swati Maliwal, sometimes false allegations of foreign funding. The BJP will use new tactics everyday during elections. BJP is losing badly. Modi ji's sinking ship is taking support of Swati Maliwal," AAP said.
