A video of a Samajwadi Party leader climbing into a giant hole in the middle of a road in Uttar Pradesh has gone viral on social media. SP leader Nitin Kohli was seen standing inside the pit after the road suddenly caved in, accusing the authorities of failing to address repeated road collapses during the monsoon in Agra district.
The incident took place in Agra’s posh Kamla Nagar locality, where a section of the road gave way on Friday, leaving behind a several-foot-deep pit and prompting authorities to shut the stretch to traffic. No injuries were reported. However, residents said the collapse could have resulted in a major accident had a vehicle been passing through the area at the time.
In a video shared on Instagram, Kohli, while standing inside the pit, alleged corruption in development works and said "Tajnagari" (Agra) was turning into a "Gaddha Nagari" (city of potholes). Calling the hole a "road to Pataal" (road to the underworld), he claimed that roads across the city continue to cave in during the rainy season, putting residents’ safety at risk.

The video has since drawn attention on social media, with users calling for the damaged road to be restored and those responsible to be held accountable.
The incident comes days after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) cracked down on the company responsible for the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway after cracks and erosion were reported on parts of the newly opened highway.
According to NHAI officials, the project director has been suspended and banned from the company’s operations, while the head of the independent engineering team has also been suspended.
The construction agency has also been issued a show-cause notice and asked to submit an explanation for the reasons behind the cracks that emerged on the highway within weeks of its opening, news agency PTI reported.
