AIADMK Ward Secretary Murder:  Weeks after BSP's state president K Armstrong was brutally murdered, another high-profile killing rocked Tamil Nadu on Sunday when unknown assailants hacked an AIADMK ward secretary to death in Cuddalore district. The murderers allegedly attacked Padmanabhan, an AIADMK leader, while he was riding his two-wheeler, police said, adding that they arrested two suspects in the case.

This is the second killing of a political leader in a DMK-ruled state. Earlier, on July 5, Bahujan Samaj Party's state unit president K Armstrong was murdered in a gang rivalry. The incident which took place in Chennai's Perambar, drew nationwide outrage with many political leaders visiting Armstrong's bereaved family and demanding justice.
