Tamil Nadu Police Attacked: A police escort vehicle was attacked near the Thirumandhurai toll plaza on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway on Saturday, leaving three cops injured. According to the police, unidentified assailants hurled country bombs at a police vehicle in an attempt to attack a history sheeter, 'Vellai' Kali, being transported in it. The injured were immediately rushed to the Perambalur Government Hospital for treatment. The incident prompted former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) to attack the DMK government.

Took to X (formerly Twitter) to condemn the DMK government, EPS asserted that while Chief Minister MK Stalin was "patting his own back" in the State Assembly, the state's security apparatus was "shattered on the highways".

What Happened On Chennai-Trichy National Highway

According to preliminary reports, three police personnel sustained injuries in the blast, which aimed to kill Kali, a notorious history-sheeter from Madurai with over 30 criminal cases including nine murders. As the police van approached the Perambalur district limits, a gang traveling in two cars intercepted the vehicle and hurled multiple country bombs, attempting to neutralise the police escort to reach the history-sheeter.

In self-defense and to prevent the prisoner's escape or assassination, the police personnel reportedly opened fire at the vehicles, forcing the attackers to flee the scene. A senior officer said the assailants fled towards Chennai. The condition of 'Vellai' Kali is reported to be stable as the police successfully shielded him from the direct impact of the explosives.

EPS Questions Law And Order

AIADMK's EPS alleged that criminals no longer fear the police under the current administration. "It seems that those engaging in criminal acts have absolutely no fear of either the police or this government. In a situation where law and order is being made a laughingstock, one wonders where is chief minister? Who's been spinning the wheel of governance somehow or the other? I strongly condemn Chief Minister @mkstalin for not allowing the police to act independently."
