Tamil Nadu Govt Formation Highlights: TVK chief Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar in Chennai on Friday and staked a claim to form the government in the state, following support from CPI and CPI(M). The development comes amid fast-evolving political alignments in Tamil Nadu after the elections.
However, reports suggest that the Governor is yet to be fully convinced about the numbers required to form the government. Meanwhile, CPI(M) leader K Balakrishnan has indicated that a swearing-in ceremony is being planned for May 9 at 11 am, though no official confirmation has been issued.
At the same time, VCK has not officially extended its support to TVK, adding further uncertainty to the government formation process.

Mamata Banerjee’s government’s term officially ended on Thursday, with the formal tenure of the previous administration lasting until May 7. On Thursday, the Governor issued a notification dissolving the 17th West Bengal Legislative Assembly, effectively bringing its existence to a close.

CPM state secretary TT Shanmugam said that, constitutionally, TVK should be given the first opportunity to form the government in Tamil Nadu following the hung Assembly verdict. Speaking in Chennai, Shanmugam said, “According to the Constitution, it is TVK that should be allowed to form the government. We have never seen a situation like this in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, and now we have a hung Assembly.” He said Governor RN Ravi should invite TVK president C. Joseph Vijay to form the government as his party was leading.
