Tamil Nadu’s Youth Welfare Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Saturday launched a campaign to get as many as 50 lakh signatures within 50 days against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and found a unique way to endorse his initiative.

The DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s son appeared on the stage with an egg written NEET over it. The initiative, which was taken up by the party's youth, students, and medical wings was initially endorsed by CM Stalin.

MK Stalin’s son, who launched the initiative at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai said that the DMK has been striving to abolish the screening test, which has been taking the lives of students.

Udhayanidhi showed the egg to the crowd and said that the cut-of percentage of the NEET-PG was reduced to zero percent under Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government. “This showed that those who don’t qualify for the NEET-PG can secure admission by paying money,” he said.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Udhayanidhi Stani wrote, “To eliminate the injustice of NEET, which is rejected by the entire Tamil Nadu,we have launched a massive signature drive today. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has encouraged us by signing the first one.”

“In order to urge the President to give approval to the NEET Exemption Bill, we will go around to every nook and cranny of Tamilnadu's colleges, schools, towns and streets and collect the signatures of the people of Tamilnadu,” he further said.

Stalin also urged the political parties, especially the opposition AIADMK to launch an integrated ecampaign against NEET. In a sharp response to the invitation, AIADMK Organising Secretary D Jayakumar accused the DMK of misleading the people about the issue.

“Now, finally the DMK has let out its secret on how to abolish the NEET in the country," Jayakumar said and added that so long as people remained gullible, the tricksters would take advantage of them.

"The Chief Minister had said that he would abolish NEET by a single signature. Now the people, particularly the students, are wondering if the Chief Minister and his son have forgotten to put one signature to ban NEET," Jayakumar said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
