Tamil Nadu: PM Modi To Inaugurate 8 Redesigned Railway Stations On March 1; What Is Amrit Bharat Station Scheme?

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme: In a major update, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate eight redeveloped railway stations in Tamil Nadu on March 1. The railways stated that designed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), these stations will boost connectivity and will provide convenience to the passengers. The scheme was launched in 2022 to redesign and upgrade the railway stations across the country to ensure better accessibility. Apart from inaugurating these stations, the prime minister is also likely to address a crowd.

While providing details, the railways stated that the eight redesigned stations are Morappur, Bommidi, Srivilliputtur, Sholavandan, Manaparai, Pollachi Junction, Karaikkudi Junction, and Thiruvarur Junction. It further stated that all the stations fall under the administrative control of the Southern Railway (SR) zone. The authority stated that the residents of the regions near these stations will get significant benefits due to the redevelopment.

"These stations have been upgraded with modern passenger-centric amenities while incorporating local architectural elements and cultural aesthetics, including improved accessibility, enhanced station buildings, modern waiting halls, lifts and escalators, upgraded platforms and Divyangjan-friendly facilities," the Ministry of Railways stated.

The officials further stated that Bommidi station now has waiting halls, a booking office, a new entrance arch, and a foot overbridge, providing relief to the passengers. They further stated that upgradation work is currently underway at 69 more stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

In separate news, the Tamil Nadu government is reportedly planning to build an expressway between Chennai (Oragadam) and Tiruvannamalai via Cheyyar. The officials stated that the key project will boost the regional connectivity by linking the industrial zones to the residential areas. Along with improving the connectivity, the expressway will also boost tourism and financial activities.

The officials stated that the 140-km greenfield expressway will halve the travel time from Chennai to Tiruvannamalai. While the travel time between the two cities is currently four hours, it will be further reduced to two hours after completion of the project.
