Incessant rains have created utter chaos across Tamil Nadu. Several districts in the southern area of the state have been submerged amid unprecedented spells of downpours. A flood-like situation is being witnessed as all the water bodies have swelled up to their full capacity. One person has reportedly died in the Tuticorin district. A red alert has also been issued in the state.

Tamil Nadu Rains: Check Latest Updates

- Kayalpattinam in south Tamil Nadu recorded extremely heavy rains of 950 mm in the past 24 hours.

-Suruli Falls in the Theni district has been flooded and the tourists have been asked to refrain from bathing due to the heavy flow.

-Continuous heavy rain in Tirunelveli District has led to the overflow of the Manimuthar waterfall.

-Due to heavy rains in the Nilgiris district, several incidents of landslide have been reported on Ooty-Mettupalayam Road

- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has appointed four additional ministers to speed up recovery and relief work in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari and Tenkasi districts.

- The state government has sought help from Indian defence forces to expedite the relief and rescue mission in flood-hit Tamil Nadu, HT reported.

- Around 7,500 people have been evacuated from flood-hit areas and shifted to relief camps. SMS alerts were sent to 62 lakh people.

- The state government has declared December 18 a public holiday in the four districts.

- Train services in the Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur section have been suspended as the tracks were washed away in the water stream.

- The IMD said more rains are expected in the region.

-The wall of Korampallam pond was shattered amid heavy water pressure. The road adjacent to the pond was submerged in water.

- State BJP chief K Annamalai asked the party cadres to get themselves involved in rescue work. He said many kitchens were opened across the affected areas.
