A school principal in Tamil Nadu's Dharmapuri district was suspended after a video of a girl student cleaning toilet sheets surfaced on several social media platforms. The incident took place in Palakkodu village, sparking an outrage among parents.

The girl student in the viral video could be seen holding brooms and cleaning toilet seats in her school uniform. The matter came into light after it was revealed that most of the students in this school are tribals. It was later known that the school caters to approximately 150 students of the tribal community. The parents of the students staged a protest outside the school premises after the video surfaced online. The parents further demanded strong action against the school authorities.

The parents of the girl students clarified that the kids often felt exhausted upon returning from the school. While the parents assumed that the tiredness was because of the rigorous study, little did they knew that the students were compelled to do physical activities during the school hours. The parents later complained that the students were also asked to fetch water, and the school premises. They also claimed that the education of their children was also being compromised.

"We send our children to school to study, not to clean. When they come home, they are too tired to do their homework. When we asked them why, they said they had spent their time cleaning the school and toilets instead of learning. It’s heartbreaking to hear this, and it seems like the teachers are not focusing on their responsibilities to teach," the mother of a student was quoted as saying by India Today.

Upon receiving backlash, Dharmapuri's Chief Education Officer (CEO) ordered a probe into the matter. The District Education Officer (DEO) later confirmed that the school principal was suspended, adding that a thorough investigation would be conducted.
