Tamil Nadu Stampede: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi on Sunday met with the family members of the 40 people killed in a stampede in actor-turned-politician Vijay's rally. While expressing her grief, she stated that the Tamil Nadu government is standing strong with the victims and urged everyone to wait for the probe's findings before reaching any conclusion. The Chief Minister MK Stalin announced the formation of a commission of inquiry, headed by Justice Aruna Jagadeesan, to probe the incident. The officials stated that 40 people were killed and at least 100 got injured in the stampede at TVK chief Vijay's political rally in Karur on Saturday.

Kanimozhi, without taking any names, took a jibe at Vijay by questioning his absence after the stampede, as the actor was seen rushing to the airport after the incident. "We did not run away," the DMK MP was quoted as saying by NDTV. However, she asserted that no one should be blamed until the commission reaches any final conclusion, adding that the safety of the people should be the priority.

"Insensitive to blame anyone. The Chief Minister has also said this. A commission is here, and we should leave it to them. We should now look for the safety of the people," Kanimozhi stated. Earlier on Sunday, TVK approached the Madras High Court seeking a probe into the Karur stampede. The court has allowed an urgent mention by the party seeking a suo motu cognisance into the matter.

TVK's lawyer Arivazhagan also stated that the party has urged the court to probe the matter independently, adding that there was a big "conspiracy" in the incident. "There was a conspiracy, a criminal conspiracy in the incident at Karur, so we requested the honorable high court to investigate the matter independently, not by state agency," Arivazhagan was quoted as saying by NDTV.
