Tamil Nadu News: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay-led TVK, days after forming its government, has confirmed that it will continue the two-language policy. While talking about the issue, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister A Rajmohan stated that the government will continue to teach only in Tamil and English, adding that any third language will not be imposed on the students. However, the newly-formed government is yet to take a final decision on implementation of the PM SHRI Scheme.

While describing the two-language policy as one of the fundamental principles of the Vijay-led party, the state minister asserted that no third language will be introduced. "Two-language policy is not just a policy of the Tamil Nadu government, it is also one of the fundamental principles of the TVK," Rajmohan was quoted as saying by the Deccan Herald.

"We are clear that the state will continue to follow the two-language policy and there is no change in that," the minister added. Earlier, the DMK government, under the leadership of MK Stalin, strongly opposed the centre's proposal of the three-language formula under the National Education Policy (NEP).

The Stalin government claimed that the policy was being introduced to dilute the regional languages, further asking the southern states to oppose the policy. Apart from this, the Dravidian party also refused to implement the PM SHRI Scheme by alleging that the centre wanted to introduce Hindi through the back door.

Rajmohan asserted that while Tamil is the mother tongue, English should be learned for communication in the other regions. "People should learn Tamil because it is their mother tongue and English for outside communication. We will discuss threadbare about other issues and schemes and take a decision," the minister stated.

However, he stated that the state government has not taken the decision on implementing the PM SHRI scheme in Tamil Nadu.
