Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Chennai has forecast rainfall across Tamil Nadu until October 19, with 16 districts likely to witness heavy downpours on Tuesday, affecting both the Western Ghats and several interior regions.
Heavy rainfall is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday in the hilly areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Theni, and Tenkasi, as well as the hill belts of Tiruppur district. Strong showers may also affect Erode, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tiruchirappalli, Kallakurichi, and Tiruvannamalai.

The alert has been extended to October 15 and 16 for the hilly regions of Tirunelveli and the coastal districts of Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, and Sivaganga. Isolated heavy showers are also expected in Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai.
Chennai Weather Forecast
The IMD has forecast partly cloudy skies for the city, with light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning expected in several areas until October 17. Thunderstorm activity is likely to persist over the next five days, especially during afternoons and evenings.
On October 14, the temperature will be around 32/26 Degree Celsius with a partly cloudy sky and a possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm.
On October 15, the temperature will be around 32/26 Degree Celsius with a partly cloudy sky and moderate rain or thunderstorm, possibly accompanied by lightning.
On October 16, the temperature will be around 32/25 Degree Celsius with a partly cloudy sky.
On October 17, the temperature will be around 32/25 Degree Celsius with a partly cloudy sky.
On October 18, the temperature will be around 32/25 Degree Celsius with a partly cloudy sky and a possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm accompanied by lightning.
On October 19, the temperature will be around 32/26 Degree Celsius with a partly cloudy sky in the morning, becoming generally cloudy by evening or night with a possibility of rain or thundershowers accompanied by squall.
Following weeks of heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu, parts of Coimbatore and Tiruppur have already faced flash floods, while continuous downpours in Salem and Erode have raised reservoir levels, prompting minor dam releases.
The Nilgiris remains on alert after recent landslides near Coonoor and Kotagiri, causing temporary road closures. Authorities have urged residents in hilly and low-lying areas to stay cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and advised farmers to safeguard crops and strengthen paddy field bunds.
