Chennai Weather: After several days of frequent rainfall, the city is expected to receive light to moderate showers again on Wednesday (December 10), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The minimum temperature is likely to remain around 24 degrees Celsius, similar to Tuesday’s reading.
Although the Northeast Monsoon has weakened slightly, many parts of Tamil Nadu have begun experiencing dry conditions. Cooler mornings, mist and lower temperatures have also been reported due to cold easterly winds.
Chennai Weather: Cyclonic Circulation May Trigger More Showers
Weather officials said a cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal is creating fresh support for rain formation. Shifts in easterly wind patterns are also aiding cloud build-up. The IMD forecasts light to moderate rain at isolated locations across Tamil Nadu until December 14.
In Chennai, the sky is likely to stay generally cloudy, with light showers expected in some pockets of the city and its suburbs.
Strong Wind Warning Issued For Coastal Areas
The IMD has issued a warning for strong cyclonic winds reaching speeds up to 55 kmph. These conditions are expected today and tomorrow over:
- Tamil Nadu coastal belt
- Gulf of Mannar
- Kanyakumari Sea
On December 11 and 12, similar wind speeds may continue over south Tamil Nadu’s coastal regions, the Gulf of Mannar and Kanyakumari Sea. Winds up to 55 kmph are also likely over the southwest Bay of Bengal today and tomorrow.
Chennai Temperature Outlook And Weekly Forecast
Chennai’s maximum temperature is expected to touch 30 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while the minimum will remain around 24 degrees Celsius. The IMD has predicted a cloudy sky with possible light rain.
Rain is likely to ease after Thursday, but showers may return on Monday next week.
