Tamil Nadu Weather Today: While the rest of India suffers from chills and cold waves, parts of Tamil Nadu struggle with cloudy weather and rain. However, rain spells have descended in major parts, as the India Meteorological Department has cautioned that isolated pockets in the higher reaches of the Nilgiris may experience ground frost during the night and early morning hours of December 20.

The alert came after a sharp decrease in temperature in hilly areas of Tamil Nadu, with Ooty recording a minimum temperature of 8.2 degrees Celsius. While the maximum temperature remained above normal in Nilgiris, the sharp dip in minimum temperature has increased the concerns related to ground frost.

Chennai Weather Forecast: City Braces For Cloudy, Hazy Week

- The weather in Chennai remained dry with cloudy skies and mild winter chills during early morning, but the weather forecast by IMD anticipates the high chances of hazy weather and light rain ahead.

- As per the weather forecast bulletin released by the IMD on December 19, Chennai is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with mild winter in early mornings and evenings till December 24.

- Light rain is expected to occur in some areas of Chennai with partly cloudy skies to persist.

Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast: Rain During Christmas Week

A major part of Tamil Nadu, including Puducherry and Karaikal, is expected to experience dry weather till December 24, with light easterly and northeasterly winds. But a weather shift is anticipated on December 25. Light to moderate rainfall may occur at isolated locations in the State, with Northeast Monsoon rainfall staying marginally above normal in the region.
