Tamil Nadu Weather: The remnants of Cyclone Ditwah, which has weakened into a deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts, are forecast to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall on Tuesday, December 2.
“The Deep Depression (Remnant of Cyclonic Storm Ditwah) over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts moved slowly northwards with the speed of 3 kmph during and lay centred at 11.30 am 50 km east of Chennai, 140 km northeast of Puducherry, 160 km north-northeast of Cuddalore and 170 km south-southeast of Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore,” Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai said.
Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast
According to the weather department, the deep depression will move slowly north, holding its strength along the Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts through Tuesday morning. The system is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall in Ranipet, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai and Chengalpattu districts before weakening later on Tuesday.
In view of heavy to very heavy rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Ranipet. Residents have been advised to avoid non-essential travel and follow official weather updates issued by the government and disaster management authorities to avoid inconvenience.
A flood warning has been issued across Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, and Chengalpattu districts due to the significant inflows expected in the major river systems of the region, including Adyar, Kosasthalaiyar, and Araniar rivers.
School Holiday In Chennai, Chengalpattu, Other TN Districts
Due to ongoing heavy rainfall and severe flooding, all educational institutions (schools and colleges) will remain closed in several districts today, December 2. Chennai District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Jagade stated that the decision was made to ensure the safety of students and staff during inclement weather conditions across the district, news agency ANI reported.
Schools and colleges across Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, and Tiruvallur will also remain closed on December 2 as a precautionary measure.
