Tamil Nadu Weather:  The low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal became more defined and was classified as a Well Marked Low-Pressure Area on Tuesday. According to the India Meteorological Centre, heavy rains are expected in Tamil Nadu until December 13. On December 11, strong to very heavy rain is expected in isolated areas, including Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Mayiladuthurai, and Karaikal in adjoining Puducherry.

In isolated areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry districts, including Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villuppuram, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram, there is a chance of heavy rain.

The Low Pressure Area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjacent east Equatorial Indian Ocean on December 9 has become more distinct and is now classified as a Well Marked Low Pressure Area, according to a statement from the IMD-Regional Meteorological Centre.

"The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to mid-tropospheric levels. The system is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards towards Sri Lanka--Tamil Nadu coasts during the next 24 hours," the update added.

Tamil Nadu is expected to get widespread rainfall on December 12 and the day after, with isolated areas possibly seeing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The forecast for these two days covers the central, western, northern, and southern regions of Tamil Nadu as well as the Cauvery Delta.
Fishermen have been warned not to go out to sea between December 11 and 13.
