Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for eight districts in southern Tamil Nadu on Tuesday as a strengthening low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal continues to influence the region’s weather.
The IMD also forecasts the development of a second low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal on November 22, which is likely to move west-northwestward and intensify within 48 hours, bringing more rainfall to Tamil Nadu in the coming days. Chennai is expected to see moderate showers today due to sustained moisture flow from the Bay of Bengal.
Rainfall Alert In Tamil Nadu Districts
Rain is likely at isolated locations across several districts of Tamil Nadu, including Ariyalur, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Kanniyakumari, Karur, Madurai, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ranipet, Thanjavur, Tiruvallur, Tiruvarur, Tirunelveli, Tiruvannamalai, and Viluppuram. Showers are also expected in the Karaikal and Puducherry regions.
Chennai Weather Forecast
IMD issued a yellow alert in Chennai for three days from 19 to 22 Nov.
On Nov 19 temperatures will be around 27-24 Degree Celsius on 18-19 Nov, with partly cloudy skies and a possibility of moderate rain. Conditions may become unstable at times, bringing brief spells of showers.
On 20 Nov, temperatures may hover around 28-25 Degree Celsius, with partly cloudy weather and continued chances of moderate rain. Localised thunderstorms accompanied by lightning could also occur.
On Nov 21, temperatures are likely to remain near 27-25 Degree Celsius, with the forecast indicating moderate rain or thunderstorms. Lightning activity is expected in some areas as weather conditions stay unsettled.
Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast
Rainy conditions are expected to persist across Tamil Nadu throughout the weekend. According to the IMD, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore districts on Wednesday and Thursday. By Friday, cloud cover is forecast to increase, and “heavy rain may occur at isolated locations in Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villuppuram, Chengalpattu and Nagapattinam districts, as well as in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions,” the IMD said.
