Tamil Nadu Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for eight southern districts, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, and Theni, urging residents to stay vigilant. Chennai is also under a yellow alert, though officials have not yet announced a school holiday.
The alert comes as Chennai continues to struggle with waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and school closures this week. Conditions are expected to worsen over the weekend, with heavier rain forecast for Saturday and Sunday.
Chennai Weather Forecast
The RMC has forecast one or two spells of light to moderate rain for Chennai later in the day, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The city’s maximum temperature is likely to stay around 30-31 Degree Celsius, while the minimum is expected to remain between 25-26 Degree Celsius.
On 19 Nov, the temperature will range between 30 and 25 Degree Celsius, with partly cloudy skies through the day. The forecast also indicates a possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning.
On Nov 20, the temperature is expected to range between 30 and 25 Degree Celsius, with a generally cloudy sky throughout the day, while on Nov 21, temperatures will hover at similar levels with partly cloudy skies and a possibility of light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, including lightning, though no warning has been issued.
From 22 to 25 November, temperatures will remain steady, ranging between 30 Degree Celsius and 24-25 Degree Celsius. On 22 Nov, the forecast indicates partly cloudy skies. 23 Nov will see a generally cloudy sky with the possibility of heavy rain, while 24 Nov is expected to bring generally cloudy conditions with heavy rainfall. On 25 Nov, the weather will remain generally cloudy with moderate to heavy rain or thunderstorms.
Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast
Light to moderate rain is expected at a few places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning likely in one or two areas. Heavy rainfall is forecast for Cuddalore and Mayiladuthurai districts on Wednesday and Thursday, while thunderstorm activity is also likely over Kerala, Lakshadweep, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema.

According to the bulletin, heavy rain may affect Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Villuppuram, Chengalpattu, Nagapattinam, and the Puducherry–Karaikal regions from Friday onward. On Saturday and Sunday, widespread heavy rainfall is expected in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Villuppuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, and Tirunelveli, along with Puducherry and Karaikal.
