Tamil Nadu Rain Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that several districts of Tamil Nadu are likely to witness moderate to heavy rain for the next seven days. The weather department stated that a low-pressure area has formed over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining areas, leading to heavy rainfall in the southern region of the state. Along with the heavy rainfall, the coastal districts are also expected to receive thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Amid a heavy rain alert, the schools and other educational institutes are likely to remain closed for the next few days. The continuous rainfall is likely to lead to issues like waterlogging and power outages, leading to inconveniences.
Tamil Nadu: Multiple Districts To Witness Rain
The IMD stated that several districts, including Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Madurai, Virudhunagar, and Ramanathapuram, are set to witness heavy rainfall for the next few days. The weather department has advised the district administration to stay alert and make all the necessary arrangements to avoid inconveniences. The state government has already deployed three teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts.
While providing details, the experts suggested that a low-pressure area is likely to move west to northwest, adding that it is expected to intensify into a storm. “A low-pressure area over the Strait of Malacca and the adjoining Andaman region is expected to move west to northwest, with the possibility of depression formation over the South Andaman Sea on November 24. The (low-pressure) system will continue to move west-northwest. It is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm,” IMD scientist Dr Sanjeev Dwivedi was quoted as saying by ANI.
Tamil Nadu: Schools To Remain Closed
Amid the heavy rainfall, the government stated that the schools in several districts, including Virudhunagar, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Ariyalur, and Karur, will remain closed on Monday.
