Tamil Nadu Weather Alert: The northeast monsoon, which had been inactive for several days, has resumed its activity over Tamil Nadu as heavy rain lashed several parts of the Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur and Thanjavur districts on Tuesday morning. The persistent rain disrupted the daily activities of the public.
Prompting this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in Chengalpattu, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, and Thiruvarur. Authorities have advised residents to stay vigilant and follow official weather updates.
Tamil Nadu Weather Forecast
Moderate to heavy rainfall was reported in Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Velankanni, Seruthur, Prathaparamapuram, Thirukkuvalai and Vedaranyam on Tuesday morning. In view of continuous rainfall, the India Meteorological Department forecast that moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur across the delta and coastal districts of Tamil Nadu.
December 16: The weather department has forecast heavy rainfall in Nellai and Tenkasi districts today. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely to occur in Chengalpattu, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kanyakumari, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Thiruvarur, Thoothukudi districts, Puducherry and Karaikal areas today.
December 17: Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is expected at a few places in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu, a few places in the northern districts, and across Puducherry and Karaikal.
The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain in some parts of Tamil Nadu till December 22.
Chennai Weather Forecast
According to the latest weather forecast, the skies over Chennai and its suburbs are expected to remain partly cloudy today. The IMD has predicted moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in some parts of the city.
The maximum temperature is expected to be around 28 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be between 23-24 degrees Celsius.
Fishermen Advisory
Cyclonic winds are forecast for the southern Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar, and Kanyakumari Sea from today until December 19. Gusty winds of 35 to 45 kmph are expected, reaching up to 55 kmph. Authorities have advised fishermen to not venture into these areas.
